#3) Do you believe that the TR is the inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of God?
My short answer is:
(Luk 2:52)
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
The TR is as Jesus at 12 years old. Developing, divinely on schedule!
People love to ask questions to trip believers up. This question is intended to create a problem that cannot be reconciled. However, it is so simple a child could get it. It is simply an error of; unbelief, lack of discernment, biblical ignorance, and has nothing to do with education at all!
Although the Textus Receptus (TR) is not derived from Alexandria Egypt, or the Vatican as the corrupt manuscripts that produce the modern versions are, the Bible correctors still use their philosophies in dealing with the TR. The standard teaching that lures "scholars" or others to settle on that particular text as most authoritative is pitifully hypocritical. The devil has a thousand tricks to get the AV1611 dismissed. Everyone (liberals to conservatives) want something that they can put their own hand to, see Jer 2:13.
In other words if you are going to put all your apples in the TR, 1. You still do not have the originals. 2. You are dealing with a translation. (You come out a Hypocrite.)
Let me give you a Biblical example about Greek (TR), and the place where the corrupt manuscripts come from, Alexandria Egypt.
(Act 18:24) . . .Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
(Act 18:25) This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
(Act 18:26) And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
There is nothing in the Bible that comes from Alexandria that is good. It is always substandard. See Acts 6:9, Acts 27:6 (This ship sunk) Acts 28:11 (This ship carries Paul to his death.) All headed for Rome! And bad doctrine comes from Acts 18:26.
Let's take another look:
(Act 21:33) ...commanded him to be bound with two chains;
(Exo 20:2) ...Egypt,... the house of bondage.
(Deu 17:16) ...Egypt, ... return no more that way.
(Act 21:37) ..., Canst thou speak Greek?
(Act 21:38) Art not thou that Egyptian,...?
(Act 21:40) ..., he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue,
Learn a lesson from these verses. (Alexandria is in Egypt.) The Vaticanus and Sinaiticus are like the two chains and have bound the Church. Therefore there is a mistaken identity. The Church begins to look like the world. The proper identifying mark is the correct line of Greek, but the story ends with Paul addressing the people in their own language. The right Greek (TR) identifies the right heritage but is not used to speak to the people!
The King James Bible speaks to the world; English is the universal language. The King James Bible has a list a mile long as to scriptural, and historical, as well as modern day proof that God has placed His fingerprint on it. The TR does not even rate. One of many scriptural identifying marks can be found in Psa 12:6.
(Psa 12:6) The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. The TR does not fit this description.
English is the seventh Language from Hebrew that the words were written in.
It was the seventh English translation recognized by the King and the translators.
It had seven purifications of the text since 1611.
(Zep 3:9) For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.
This prophecy has been true from the time it was penned.
Even though the words have been purified, and preserved, we do not have a pure language, yet!
God made sure of two things:
- 1. No original exists anywhere on the face of the earth.
- 2. The completed Bible (Gen-Rev) is written in a mixture of languages.
Paul made sure of two things:
- 1. The word of the Lord was published to different tongues of people. (Act 13:49)
- 2. He didn't try to teach everyone Greek. (1 Cor 14:18)
The Bible itself concludes that the inspired word of God can and does indeed travel through translation, and interpretation. The Bible teaches of itself that pure words are moving through un-pure languages. Like the two natures of Jesus, Son of Man, Son of God! Completely God, completely man.
There is nothing (superior) better about the TR biblically, practically, theologically, or doctrinally, it is simply a solid foundation in the purification process of the word of God. Capable of sitting in the company of Doctors Luke 2:46. But if the best Bible is in English and it is, (Rom 13:1) The King James Bible was ordained of God, not the TR; the question is, how do I reconcile differences? Exactly the way God does. Mathew and Mark do not say the exact same thing of the same event however, they are both inspired. Variations do not disanul inspiration, or infallibility, or inerrancy, especially if God was in the process of purifying His word.
The Church started because the Jews rejected the "Word"after He grew amongst them, and the Church will be cut off because of its rejection of the written word that grew amongst them. The Jews had contempt for Jesus because they thought they knew where He come from, John 6:42. There is nothing new under the son.
The problem people have is in the little mistakes that they think exists in the KJV. This is where the TR comes in. It is a venue for correcting things that cannot be reconciled due to lack of study, not translation error, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
Let me remind you that even though God's word is given by inspiration, it is not all God's words, the Bible records the inspiration of Satan and error of man. Therefore inerrant does not mean that it does not contain flawed and even wicked information, but that without error it perfectly gives the truth. This can be accomplished in any language subject to its development to include sign language. I suppose every language would contain "nuggets" God is wonderful!
Thanks for the Question 1Cor 1:22 Pastor Steve Sumner
Note: Alexandrian means to exhibit "worldly," "humanistic," and "circular" reasoning while appearing godly. The anti-biblical philosophies that Paul dealt with all came from this region and remains to this very day through higher education. Egypt is a type of the world in the Bible, and Alexandria was where the professors were located, WH directly linked. The Bible says, "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools," A man named Origen was a leader in this movement, he even castrated himself, being steeped in Gnosticism. The god of these folks is abstaining from all appearance of evil, (nice and sweet; not rude, or harsh) so that they can belong to the Pharisee club. The so-called LXX was probably Origens doing.
