#1) Pastor, why do preachers lie about that? (what they really believe)
That's a good question. If I thought that the Bible I used had errors or that a better one had come along, I wouldn't wait for the sun to go down to tell everyone.
Most preachers today have been taught in Bible College (as was I) a very faulty line of critical thinking; it is not biblical. It is technically called "the science of textual criticism." However, the Bible warns to avoid "profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called." 1 tim 6:20 This teaching develops a critical spirit of the written word in which few recover. Then believing that others could not faithfully accept this truth as they did (that the bible is not what you think) they have to pretend or play with educated words to protect the simple from their dirty little secret. (Keep the offering coming in!)
The truth is manifest "for thy speech bewrayeth thee." They begin to repeatedly correct the bible they USE (not believe) by saying things such as "the original says" or "the Greek word here should have been." This is a game that all cults use, and has no place in Bible Believing Churches.
It creates doubt in the written word, and sets the preacher up as an authority when he is just quoting from a Greek dictionary without knowing any better than you.
They also begin to allow, and do not discourage, the use of any other Bible. So It doesn't take long for the user to become an abuser.
There are Bible Believers and Bible Correctors, it is the Bible that is supposed to correct us.
Thanks for the question Judges 21:25 Pastor Steve Sumner
